    Bill has been practicing law since 1997.

    Education

    Bill was born in Madison and raised in Green Bay where he was an academic standout at Abbot Pennings High School. He attended the University of Wisconsin and graduated in 1992 with a bachelor's degree in Engineering Mechanics and Astronautics. After working as a manufacturing engineer for two years, Bill attended the University of Tulsa School of Law in Oklahoma where he graduated with high honors and was published in the school's Law Review Journal. Following graduation, Bill and his wife moved to Las Vegas where he handled civil cases for insurance companies at a large, well respected firm.

    Bill and his family returned to Wisconsin and settled in Madison in 2000. Bill worked in one of the state's largest firms handling business litigation cases for one year and then, in January, 2002 widened his practice by taking on numerous State and Federal criminal cases throughout Wisconsin.

  • November 2003
    Not Guilty
    Defendant was wrongfully charged with battery to his girlfriend and disorderly conduct. Mr. Jones successfully demonstrated at jury trial that the girlfriend had manufactured the allegations in an effort to gain leverage against the defendant in a related child custody case.
  • February 2008
    NOT GUILTY
    As the result of a melee outside a local club, involving in excess of 100 people, defendant and several others were singled out as the instigators and charged with battery and disorderly conduct. All other defendants plead guilty. Mr. Jones successfully demonstrated to the jury that his client did not instigate the altercation, that she had been acting in the defense of others, and that many of the witnesses were lying.

    NOT GUILTY
    Defendant's teenage stepdaughter falsely accused him of repeated sexual assault over the course of many years. Mr. Jones demonstrated to the jury that the accusing witness had motives to lie as well as many inconsistencies in her story.

    CASE DISMISSED
    Defendant was improperly sued by a former friend who alleged he took property from his deceased mother's estate. Mr. Jones demonstrated at trial that the plaintiff's claims were frivolous and that documentary and eyewitness evidence made it clear that the claims could not be supported.

    NOT GUILTY
    Defendant was alleged to have been found sleeping in his vehicle with a prohibited blood alcohol content. Mr. Jones demonstrated, through the use of eye witness testimony and police video, that a law enforcement officer's claim that the vehicle was running was very questionable and that the more likely scenario was that his client had realized he was not fit to drive and chose to sleep in his car without operating it.

    SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION
    Defendant was indicted in a massive theft ring in Federal Court. Over the course of a three day trial, Mr. Jones effectively cross examined several of the Federal Government's key witnesses and demonstrated that they were not being truthful. Verdict: Not Guilty on several counts, sentenced to a significantly less amount of time than had been offered during plea negotiations.

    DUI DISMISSED
    Defendant was charged with operating while under the influence and refusing to submit a blood sample for testing. Midway through trial a favorable plea agreement was obtained for the Defendant after cross examination of the arresting officer about the video of the field sobriety tests and subsequent arrest as well as legal argument relating to the steps required prior to requesting a blood sample in Wisconsin.

    NOT GUILTY
    Juvenile was charged with participating in thefts from two different retail stores orchestrated by a large group of teenagers. Mr. Jones demonstrated at trial that the juvenile was nothing more than an onlooker.

    DISMISSED
    Man was alleged to have participated in several drug deals that were supervised by law enforcement who used a confidential informant. Mr. Jones located alibi witnesses and corroborating evidence to establish that the confidential source was lying about the identity of the drug dealer.

    CASE DISMISSED ON SUMMARY JUDGMENT
    A small construction company was sued by a Township claiming the company had damaged the town's roads. Mr. Jones conducted depositions and other discovery to reveal the town's lack of merit in its case.
  • November 2022
    CASE DISMISSED ON SUMMARY JUDGMENT
    A patron of a local tavern sued the owner for defamation. Mr. Jones conducted depositions and other discovery to defeat the case on summary judgment and to obtain an order from the court requiring the plainitff and her lawyer to pay Mr. Jones's client over $70,000 in lawyer fees.

    CASE DISMISSED AFTER START OF TRIAL
    A driver was charged with a hit and run that he did not commit. After Mr. Jones conducted cross examination of the government's key witness it moved to dismiss the case in the middle of the jury trial and acknowledged that it could not prove the charges.
